Many students interested in auditioning have inquired about the orchestra's retention rate. We do have many returning members who are in the orchestra every semester, but due to co-op rotations, students graduating, and academic schedule conflicts, there are always openings every semester. We encourage retention as much as we encourage new members to join; our mix of old and new is what makes the ensemble stronger with each passing semester.

To give you an idea of what to prepare, here are past audition requirements:
Orchestra Auditions (brass, woodwind, percussion, strings, harp, and piano)
All students audition for admission. Students are asked to perform two significant concerto or etude excerpts (either portions of a single work or two separate works). One should demonstrate technique; the other, phrasing/musicality. Play three chromatically adjacent scales (such as C major, C# major and D major), two octaves with arpeggios for woodwinds and brass, three octaves for strings (if possible for the individual). No sight-reading required.

Auditions are usually the first three days of classes from 9 AM until 5 PM, and can be arranged by writing to Ron Mendola, providing the following information:
      - Instrument (i.e. harp, piano, trumpet etc.)
      - Email address
      - Time range available on first three days of class
      - Home/Work phone # or cell phone #
