The Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra was founded in the spring of 1996 and has dramatically grown to become one of the prime performing arts organizations on the Georgia Tech campus. Originally a small and novel idea born in the mind of freshman violinist Victor Chou, the orchestra started as a group of twelve college musicians brought together by a passion to play classical music. Assistant band director at the time, Ron Mendola, conducted the chamber ensemble and continues to do so. We are very fortunate to have Ron as our conductor.

Over one summer quarter of recruiting, the tiny chamber ensemble of spring 1996 grew to a thirty member orchestra the following fall. The consecutive winter quarter of 1997, a small woodwind and brass section joined the symphony. Now after a few years of hard recruiting, campus exposure, and musical advancement, the Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra has increased its numbers to well over eighty musicians. This excellent ensemble continues to grow in calibre, musicality, and student spirit.

The Georgia Tech Symphony Orchestra performs a wide repertoire of pieces, ranging from challenging symphonic literature to innovative popular arrangements. The orchestra also frequently features student soloists. Student experience levels vary, and the group enjoys a high standard of performance. Auditions are open for new members each academic semester.
